Gauntlet

Released by Atari in 1986 (and distributed in Japan by Namco), Gauntlet is an iconic hack-and-slash masterpiece that carved its name into arcade history by introducing four-player cooperative play. Players choose from four distinct characters—Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard, or Elf—and venture into the depths of a labyrinth. Using an eight-way joystick and two buttons, you must fend off waves of enemies while collecting food and treasure to find the exit. The game demands a strategic approach to managing your limited health, but the true essence of Gauntlet lies in the persistent tension of being overwhelmed by endless swarms of monsters.
