Description

Released by Sigma in 1980, this fixed-screen action shooter is set against the backdrop of the New York City skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Players move left and right to shoot down incoming UFOs, but a notable feature is the "UFO Guardian." It emits unique sounds every time it is attacked, and once it sustains a certain amount of damage, it triggers a massive explosion that destroys surrounding enemies. Furthermore, defeating a set number of enemies causes a powerful boss shaped like the letters "UFO" to appear; defeating this boss reveals unique messages, showcasing the creative presentation typical of arcade games from that era. Often distributed in cabinets sold by Taito, this game was widely popular in arcades of the time.
