Description

Released by Capcom in 1987, 1943: The Battle of Midway is a vertical-scrolling shooter that inherits and elevates the system of its predecessor, the classic 1942. This title replaces the traditional life system with an energy gauge and introduces new tactical possibilities through the powerful wide-area "Mega Crash" attack and a variety of weapon upgrades. Across its 16 stages, players can seek out hidden characters for added replayability as they pilot the P-38 Lightning through the Pacific War, aiming for the ultimate goal: the destruction of the battleship Yamato. Achieving specific destruction rates on each stage is the key to success, and special settings on the arcade board can be accessed by performing specific inputs while in service mode.

Story

The stage is set at the Battle of Midway, a fiercely contested theater of World War II. As an American pilot flying the P-38 Lightning fighter, you will engage in intense air and sea battles against the Imperial Japanese Navy’s aircraft and warships. Utilize a variety of weapons to break through the enemy's defensive lines, with the ultimate mission of destroying the battleship Yamato.
