Description

Released by Irem for arcades in 1992, R-TYPE LEO is known as a unique entry in the classic R-TYPE scrolling shooter series. The most significant feature of this title is the departure from the series’ signature "Wave Cannon," replaced by a unique system where players control "Psy-bits" that follow the player’s ship. The space environments rendered with beautiful graphics, combined with the exhilarating gameplay derived from strategic bit manipulation, captivated players at the time. It is an ambitious work that pursued new possibilities for the series while upholding its long-standing traditions.

Story

The setting is a solar system in a parallel world, separate from our own. Eden, an artificial planet developed by humanity as a second Earth, begins to malfunction for unknown reasons and launches an attack against mankind. To destroy Eden, humanity deploys two "R-9 LEO" units. This conflict would later come to be known as the "Eden Paradox."
