Rygar

Rygar (1987, Tecmo) is an action game in which a legendary warrior, resurrected in the ancient land of Argus, embarks on a quest to save a world ruled by the Beast King Ligar. Set against beautifully illustrated backgrounds, players must master jumping and a yo-yo-like extendable weapon to complete all 27 stages. Collecting five "Indra's Fighting Spirit" power-up items—which appear after destroying warrior headstones or defeating groups of enemies—grants a special bonus. The game also features compelling secrets, such as a 1,000,000-point bonus familiar to fans of Star Force. Please note that, consistent with the original arcade hardware specifications, some enemies or objects positioned over pits may not have active hit detection.

In the year 19XX, humanity has been brought under the control of the Beast King Ligar, who has been resurrected from ancient times, and his tribe of beastmen. As despair spreads among a helpless humanity, the legendary "Warrior of Argus," spoken of in old tales, is revived. As this warrior, the player must take up the yo-yo-like weapon known as the "Diskarmor" and fight toward the castle of the Beast King Ligar.
