Description

Released by Taito in 1986, Arkanoid is an arcade masterpiece that breathed new life into the brick-breaking genre. Players control the Vaus, a compact spacecraft, and must break through the barriers constructed by the energy entity known as DOH to clear a path home. The game utilizes an intuitive paddle controller, while strategic elements—such as power-up capsules and laser cannons—add depth beyond mere reflex-based gameplay. With a final battle against the time-locked fortress DOH awaiting at the end of its 33 stages, the game left an indelible mark on the arcade scene of its era. It is also noted as a piece of gaming history that some individual cabinets exhibit unique behavior, such as an exceptionally fast countdown at startup.

Story

The massive mother ship Arkanoid is destroyed by a mysterious enemy, and the small spacecraft Vaus, which escaped the destruction, drifts into an alternate dimension. Standing in the path of the Vaus is a barrier created by the energy-based lifeform Doh. The player controls the Vaus, destroying the panels that block the space ahead to reach the deepest reaches of the dimension. In this desperate situation, a lonely battle unfolds.
