Released by Taito in 1987, Darius is a revolutionary shooting game featuring an immersive, panoramic display created by linking three 19-inch monitors, alongside the "Body Sonic" sensory sound system. Players pilot the space fighter Silver Hawk, challenging a vast war zone spanning 28 areas to determine the fate of planet Darius, which was devastated by a sudden alien invasion—the Belser. At the end of each stage, a "WARNING" signifies the arrival of a massive, fish-shaped battleship, leading to intense duels with 26 distinct and impactful bosses. With its branching stage system, an evocative soundtrack, and unique power-up mechanics, the game boasts an extraordinary level of polish for its time, securing its place as an enduring masterpiece in arcade history.
