Moon Quasar

Released by Nichibutsu for arcades in October 1980, this title is the fixed-screen shooter sequel to the classic Moon Cresta. While inheriting the structure of its predecessor, the game introduces an added sense of tension by imposing a time limit during the docking sequence, where running out of time results in the loss of all remaining ships. Various adjustments were also made throughout, such as the ability to upgrade Ship 1 to fire three shots simultaneously during refueling, and the transition to a three-character name entry system, which led to the removal of hidden features known from the first game. Due to its release timing and these system changes, the game holds a more understated profile compared to its predecessor, yet it remains a testament to the bold experimental spirit of the era.
